BeWEEN - Be Well and Green in the Digital Age
The goal of the BeWEEN project is to equip teachers and students with the skills to use digital technology in a healthier and more responsible way. In particular, we pursue the following goals:
- Improve the level of key digital competences and skills of teachers and students in relation to the topics of "health and well-being" and "environment" in Europe and beyond.
- Promoting safe and responsible use of digital technology in the European Union.
- Strengthen the European area of lifelong learning by contributing to the dissemination, replication and multiplication of this new training material.
Our team at the University of Vienna focuses on how to strengthen the health and well-being of students in the digital world. We introduced the concept of digital maturity, a novel approach that goes beyond digital literacy and empowers children and youth to use digital technologies in useful and positive ways. A high level of digital maturity empowers students to use technology to their personal advantage. Digital maturity goes beyond simply protecting young people from potential risks and instead promotes health and well-being by enabling autonomous and self-directed use of digital technologies for individual development and learning, positive online relationships, and regulating one's emotions and behavior when frustrated. A key objective of the project is to develop supporting materials that enable teachers to create their own teaching resources to promote digital maturity in young people. The project will produce materials that will be available to teachers across Europe, as well as an app that will enable children and young people to strengthen their skills in protecting health, well-being and the environment.
