Research

The goal of our research is to bridge the gap between basic and applied research in psychology. We investigate general mechanisms in areas such as attention, motivation, and decision-making, and derive practical implications that can help individuals and society deal with important changes. By integrating basic and applied research, we generate insights and recommendations that are grounded in a deep understanding of psychological principles, yet relevant to real-world challenges.

We use a wide range of research methods and study designs to understand the many aspects of consumer behavior. Research methods include controlled laboratory experiments as well as field studies and surveys. To study the basic processes of attention, we use a high-precision remote eye-tracking system in our Consumer Perception and Behavior Lab and eye-tracking glasses in the field. We also employ a variety of sampling techniques to capture consumers' everyday experiences and social media reactions. When conducting research on food consumption, many of our studies involve asking participants to taste real food samples.
