PRESS REALEASE: Facilitating the transition to sustainable protein consumption: European research project launched!

22.04.2024

Europe - [17th April 2024]: A ground-breaking research project has been launched on 1st March 2024 to answer a key question: What are the determinants that influence European consumers and stakeholders to adopt diets that include alternative proteins such as cell-based, plant-based and insect-based meats?

Spanning five different national contexts - Austria, France, Ireland, Norway and Romania - the project aims to shed light on the conditions necessary for a sustainable transition to the responsible production, distribution and consumption of novel meat substitutes across the continent.

Traditional eating habits and cultural norms vary widely across Europe, creating a complex landscape for the introduction of alternative proteins. To address this complexity, the project adopts an innovative approach that considers various contextual factors, including social, cultural, regulatory, economic, psychological, ethical, religious and ideological dimensions…

The project is funded by JPI HDHL "FOODRETEC" (national research agencies) and is a collaboration between DCS (France), LISST (France), Teagasc (Ireland), University of Vienna (Austria), Babes-Bolyai University (Romania) and Norwegian University of science and technology (Norway).
