We met with researchers from four partner countries (France, Ireland, Romania, and Norway) in the ComMEATtead project to share first findings from a series of recent stakeholder interviews conducted across Europe, capturing perspectives on both traditional and alternative protein production.

In the workshop, we presented first results of interviews with experts in science, agriculture, and the food indurstry, about the future of meat alternatives in Austria.

Most interviewees expressed positive views about plant-based meat alternatives, as they offer health benefits, represent an ethical alternative to traditional meat, and demonstrate a strong economic potential. At the same time, interviewees were more skeptical towards cultured meat and insect-based proteins and assumed Austrian consumers would not accept them.

Looking ahead, we will conduct experimental studies to explore which factors drive consumers' acceptance of alternative proteins.
